In this one-day workshop you’ll learn the difference between design and engineering, obtain a holistic view of safety in design, discover how to improve your decision making and judgement, as well as get an understanding of how to assign appropriate scope and responsibilities within projects.
The workshop will focus on best practices for engineering and design with reference to the construction phase of a project. It will look at key documents that are necessary for any project and the process of verification, validation and review. There will also be an emphasis on communicating with stakeholders through appropriate documentation and well-defined hand sketches in each design stage.
An experienced engineering team leader will guide you through the engineering and design process and provide you with examples to support your development. In addition, you will be guided through the drafting process and provided with an understanding of its importance and application.

It will be particularly useful for engineers, engineering technologists, associate engineers, technical officers, construction project managers, procurement professionals, superintendents and commercial managers.
Michael West is a Chartered professional engineer at RPEQ and NPER (Mechanical and Building Services). He is also a member of the Mechanical College Board of Engineers Australia.
Throughout his career, Michael has worked in key roles across multi-million dollar projects, including Bid Leader and Procurement Lead ($36m project), Design Management and Engineering Team Leader ($130m project), and as a Job Manager, Senior Engineer ($500m project).
His experience has led him to work within a diverse range of industries, which include steel, mining, oil and gas, chemical, manufacturing, construction and most recently renewable energy.
