In its broadest sense, due diligence refers to the care that a reasonable person would exercise to avoid harm to other people or their property before undertaking a task or project. In an engineering context, however, due diligence has a stricter definition, and in this one-day course it’s covered in detail.
The course will explain how to identify potential project ‘show stoppers’, and will cover why the use of the risk management standard ISO 31000 cannot, in itself, demonstrate due diligence.
It will present a process that has been widely used throughout Australia to deliver projects on time, on budget and to specification, to the satisfaction of all key stakeholders.
As a participant, you’ll learn how to identify the fundamentals of project due diligence, apply techniques to identify a project's critical success factors and apply top-down vulnerability techniques to project risk issues.

This is a course designed for engineers and project managers who are responsible for construction projects and who possess three or more years of experience in the field.
Richard Robinson is Chairman of R2A Due Diligence Engineers. Richard is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and an Honorary Fellow of the Australasian Marine Pilots Institute. Richard has degrees in Engineering (Monash University) and Philosophy (University of Melbourne). He is the principal author of Engineering Due Diligence (11th edition 2019) which is used as a text by a number of Australian Universities.
Richard also facilitates courses on Introduction to Defensible Risk Management, Construction Safety Due Diligence and Engineering Due Diligence for Engineering Education Australia. Richard was also a major contributor to the third revision of the Engineers Australia's safety case guideline.
Gaye Francis is an experienced risk and due diligence engineer and project manager with a diverse range of project experience collected over 15 years of consulting activities with R2A.
Gaye has worked with both private and government clients across a wide range of industries including road, rail, marine, mining, aviation and water.
