This course is run exclusively by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the internationally recognised leader in training for engineers and technical professionals.

The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, which originated more than a hundred years ago, is an international standard that regulates the design, fabrication and inspection of boilers and pressure vessels, and nuclear power plant components during construction.

Based on the rules for pressure vessel design and construction, this three-day course is a comprehensive introduction to the requirements of Section VIII, Division 1 of the Code. It covers the background, organisation, design, materials, fabrication, inspection, testing and documentation of pressure vessels.

The course also examines the more commonly applied subsections and paragraphs of the Code, and includes a practical discussion of individual problems and situations.

Special requirements
You will be required to bring your own calculator.

The latest edition of the ASME code book, BPVC Section VIII-Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels Division 1, is not required for this course but you may choose to purchase it separately.

Is this course for you?

Designed primarily as introductory-level, the course will nonetheless be valuable for experienced vessel designers who would like to update their knowledge of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

It will be particularly useful for those involved with the purchase, design, fabrication or inspection of pressure vessels.

Although some technical background in engineering is helpful, you are not required to have an engineering degree or previous work experience in the subject matter to attend this course.

 

Your facilitator for this course

Kamran Mokhtarian, P.E. has 40 years of experience in design, analysis and fabrication of pressure equipment. He currently consults to the pressure vessel industry.

Kamran is a member and past Vice Chairman of ASME Code Subcommittee VIII, a member of ASME Post Construction Committee, ASME/API Joint Committee on Fitness-For-Service and a number of other professional organisations. He is also a past Chairman of the Pressure Vessel Research Committee (PVRC).
