Introduction to Welded Design

Engineering context

The roles and responsibilities of engineers and their designs in the total life cycle of welded components is extremely critical in ensuring the integrity, reliability and safety of the welded components. The cost of failures of such components can be enormous, not only in economic terms but also public safety, human and environmental impacts.

This half-day workshop, delivered by the Welding Technology Institute of Australia, is an introduction to understanding the factors involved in the design and performance of welded structures. You will gain basic knowledge of the design for loads and material testing techniques, understand welds under static loading, and identify other considerations for welded structures.

This workshop is ideal for those with a large influence on the costs of design, fabrication, construction, operation, repair, maintenance and decommissioning of a welded component, which need to be balanced with fitness-for-purpose principles and practical welding considerations, to ensure optimum total life cycle costs.

It is important to fully appreciate the role of welding as a critical enabling technology in modern fabrication and construction practices.
